Abiquiu, NM
2008
The Abiquiu House embodies the spirit of old Hispanic adobe houses of the region. The simple corrugated steel gable roof, single line of rooms, thick masonry walls, long porch, mud plaster interior and white woodwork all reflect traditional houses of the Chama River valley.
The dark roof and earth-colored stucco walls help blend the house into the landscape while the three white porches establish an identity for the house. The house is heated by a geothermal heating system and the walls are made of recycled Styrofoam/concrete block.
